On September 4, 2026, the renowned Icelandic band Sigur Rós will perform at the Waterfront Hall in Belfast, accompanied by The Ulster Orchestra. This concert is part of their orchestral tour, which aims to highlight the unique synergy between the band and orchestral music.
Sigur Rós, formed in 1994, gained international acclaim with their second album, "Agaetis Byrjun," particularly the single "Svefn-g-englar." Their sound is characterized by a blend of traditional rock instruments and innovative playing techniques, creating a delicate and atmospheric experience that evokes the imagery of their Icelandic homeland.
The band's recent tours have featured orchestral accompaniment, a decision made to showcase the talents of various orchestras worldwide. After reuniting with keyboardist Kjartan Sveinsson in 2022, Sigur Rós has performed in grand concert halls globally, delivering performances that are both expressive and ethereal.
In addition to their live performances, Sigur Rós has been active in releasing new material, including the orchestral album "ÁTTA" in 2023, which features contributions from the London Contemporary Orchestra. With nearly ten million albums sold, Sigur Rós continues to be one of the most ambitious and acclaimed bands of recent times, promising an exciting future for their fans.
Following the Belfast concert, Sigur Rós will also perform at the Bord Gáis Energy Theatre in Dublin on September 6 and 7, 2026, further extending their orchestral tour across Ireland.
